Canalway, a non-profit cultural heritage organization, is pleased to announce McKenzie Merriman has joined the team as Programs & Special Events Coordinator effective January 6, 2025. Merriman will handle logistics and partner coordination for Canalway’s robust calendar of mission-based special events as well as the programming of Canal Basin Park.

McKenzie Merriman brings a decade of experience in nonprofit programs and community events to her role at Canalway. Her work is rooted in developing strategies that connect community members to each other and the world around them. Merriman has supported many organizations throughout her career including SPACES, Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, and The Cleveland Foundation. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and English from The Ohio State University and her Master’s in Strategic Communication from Columbia College Chicago.

McKenzie's days include dancing in the mornings, biking around Cleveland, and pouring herself into an assortment of creative outlets.

“Canalway’s events are one of the main ways we accomplish our mission of connecting people to place and sharing the history of the Ohio & Erie Canalway. We’re excited to have McKenzie on board to allow us to continue improving connections and experiences for people throughout the National Heritage Area.,” said Mera Cardenas, Executive Director of Canalway Partners.
