Cleveland History Days, an annual celebration of Cleveland's history presented by Canalway, invites residents to immerse themselves in the captivating stories that shaped the city. From access to the hidden streetcar level of the Veterans Memorial Bridge to tours and open houses of iconic landmarks, there is a treasure trove of history waiting to be explored.

Cleveland History Days showcases Cleveland's cultural institutions, historical societies, museums, and preservation
organizations, which are all working to preserve and promote the city's unique heritage.

This more than 10-day series, produced in collaboration with over 30 community partners throughout Cleveland— including the Cleveland History Center, Cuyahoga County, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Archives, Lake View Cemetery, Baseball Heritage Museum at League Park, Cleveland Metroparks, National Park Service, and more—offers a diverse array of activities. Attendees can enjoy guided walking tours, lectures, screenings, panel discussions, open houses, and special events that delve into Cleveland’s industrial heritage, diverse communities, and significant contributions to popular culture.

A few notable events during Cleveland History Days 2024:

  • Cuyahoga River Rally on June 29, presented by Canalway at Hart Crane Memorial Park - A day-long festival celebrating the history of the Cuyahoga River and the lifestyle enhancements clean water provides with live music and free guided tours by boat, kayak, and bike, as well as walking tours.
  • Rediscover the Veterans Memorial Bridge on June 21 & 22, presented by Cuyahoga County at Veterans Memorial Bridge - This self-guided tour allows visitors to experience the original streetcar station and tracks, unique views of the Cuyahoga River, Lake Erie, and downtown Cleveland from the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge.
  • History Days Speaker’s Series at Cleveland Public Library on June 22, presented by Ohio Humanities - Enjoy a full day of author talks, presentations and discussions in the Stokes Auditorium of the beautiful and historic Cleveland Public Library, Main Library. Conversations will be moderated by Tom Yablonsky, Cleveland History Days co-founder and Historic Preservation & Environmental Affairs Advocate.
  • World Series Of Rock Exhibit Opening on June 26, presented by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Library & Archives - An open house celebrating the 50th anniversary of the historic World Series of Rock concerts at Cleveland Municipal Stadium with a new exhibit.
  • National Register Historic District Preservation Showcase: Grand Bank Lobbies Tour on June 27, a fascinating walking tour of five iconic Cleveland banking lobbies from the late 19th century and early 20th century. During the tour, they’ll delve into the architectural history and share information about the efforts to preserve and adaptively reuse these historic landmarks.
  • CIFF Film & Panel Discussion on June 21, presented by Cleveland International Film Festival - Join us for a screening of Interception: Jayne Kenedy- American Sportscaster documentary film and a panel discussion on the impact Jayne’s story has had on Black women in broadcasting.
