Canalway hosted the final leg of the 2023 Towpath Trilogy Race series on Saturday, October 7. The running race started and finished on the Towpath Trail in Canal Basin Park in downtown Cleveland along the Cuyahoga River. The Towpath Marathon raised more than $100,000 for the non-profit Canalway.
Despite light rain on and off throughout the morning, more than 800 runners enjoyed autumn on the Towpath Trail and competed in 10K, half marathon and full marathon races. More than 250 participants registered for the 10K, 433 participants signed up for the half marathon and 201 participants competed in the marathon. Winners earned gift certificates from Fleet Feet, gift certificate from Collision Bend Brewery and a photograph award.
After the race, participants celebrated in Canal Basin Park with food from Swenson’s Food Truck as well as refreshments supplied by Cleveland Water and foot checks by volunteer students from the College of Podiatric Medicine at Kent State University.
The 2023 Towpath Marathon is the 32nd marathon hosted by Canalway on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
