Canalway, a non-profit cultural heritage organization, is pleased to announce Kristen Romito has joined the team as Community Engagement Specialist, effective April 25, 2023. Romito will foster community partnerships, develop grant applications, manage corporate sponsorships, and support fundraising efforts.

Romito joins Canalway with more than 20 years of experience in public relations, community engagement and project management. She started her career working at B2B marketing communications agencies, where she managed clients’ media and public relations programs. Later, she transitioned into the nonprofit and education sectors, serving as the communication director for a local school district and overseeing public relations for the Cleveland Institute of Art. Over the past 10 years, she has contracted for various Northeast Ohio nonprofit organizations including the Cleveland International Film Festival, Shaker Square Area Development Corporation and Karamu House, providing marketing communications and community engagement expertise.

She earned her Bachelors in Speech Communication and Journalism from Miami University and her MBA in Management from Baldwin-Wallace University.

Kristen enjoys traveling with her husband and two kids, trying new recipes, exploring walking trails, fitness and cuddling with her dog Walter.

“As we look forward as a growing organization, we are excited to bring Kristen onboard. Her non-profit experience, communications background and ability to build lasting relationships will be an asset to Canalway and to the community partners we work with,” said Mera Cardenas, Executive Director of Canalway Partners.
