Family bike rides on the Towpath. Completing a marathon in Canal Basin Park. Kayaking on the Cuyahoga River. Exploring Cleveland history. Cleaning up the Cuyahoga River Valley.
These are just a few of the ways we connected our community to the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Are in 2022.
Over the course of the year, we hosted 12 events with more than 4,668 attendees. These events included the Towpath Trilogy, our biggest fundraiser of the year; River Rally, a celebration of the rejuvenation of the Cuyahoga River; RiverSweep, one of Ohio’s largest one-day litter cleanups; and many other events that invited people to get outside and connect to the Towpath Trail in new ways. All of these events are returning in 2023 and most are free to community members.
In 2022, our generous supporters donated time and money to help Canalway continue our work to program and preserve the Ohio & Erie Canalway. We received monetary support from more than 324 people and engaged volunteers for more than 2,265 hours. These donations of time and money allow us to offer our community free and accessible events. Let us know if you’re interested in volunteering in 2023 or make a donation here to support our ongoing work.
Through our events and ongoing advocacy work, Canalway partnered with 80 community organizations last year. We cannot do our work alone and these ongoing relationships help us expand our reach, amplify our voice and further connect us to the community we serve.
Thank you for a great 2022. We can’t wait to see what 2023 brings!
