University Rd./Camp Cleveland

The northernmost end of the Towpath Trail extension project is taking shape as workers connect the dots between trail segments stretching from Tremont to the Cuyahoga River. The northern end of University Rd. bordering Tremont is essentially complete, with the multi-purpose trail asphalted and landscaping installed.

Part of the project is a reconfiguration of the corner of University Rd. and W. 10th, along with the addition of historical elements to commemorate the historical significance of Camp Cleveland. In the 1860s Camp Cleveland was the largest of Cleveland’s six Civil War training camps for the Union. For more on the history of Camp Cleveland, visit Cleveland Historical’s website.

Carter Rd./Canal Basin Park

The multi-purpose trail along the northern edge of Carter Rd. is now in place, Columbus Rd. Bridge is newly striped for three lanes, and the roundabout from the Carter Rd. Bridge into Canal Basin Park is nearing completion. The transformation of this space from a forgotten, weed choked ditch bordered by parking lots to the initial stage of an interpretive greenspace is an exciting step forward for downtown Cleveland! Work on stage 4 is scheduled to be complete by July 2021.
