Towpath supporters are invited to join public officials from Cuyahoga County, the City of Cleveland, Cleveland Metroparks, Canalway Partners and more to ceremonially break ground on Stage 1 of the Towpath Trail Extension Project.
We are now under construction on a 7/10 mile segment of the Towpath Trail from its terminus at lower Harvard Avenue to Steelyard Commons. We are hosting a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate this progress on Monday, July 30 at 1 PM within the Steelyard Commons – accessed near the freeway ramp/ Jennings Road. We invite all to BYOS – Bring Your Own Shovel to participate in the photo opportunity.
The city of Cleveland celebrates its 222 birthday on July 22nd. Consider this a belated present to the community as we continue to reshape the identity of Cleveland’s most important asset – the Cuyahoga River Valley. The Towpath Trail is delivering a model project to represent this theme as it showcases a healthy balance between industry, environment, jobs and recreation.
The Towpath is viewed as the spine of an evolving trail network that will someday connect Cleveland neighborhoods within a short 10-minute bike ride to an off-road system that links Cleveland’s downtown district, our River Valley, Lakefront, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Cleveland Metroparks and each other. The project will bring multiple benefits as it positions Cleveland as a destination of choice for visitors, businesses and residents.
This greenway project ($4 million) was made possible with the support of a variety of funding sources including federal CMAQ funds, State Clean Ohio Funds and others.
