Canal Basin was the center of Cleveland’s civic and business life during the Canal Era of the 1800s. As the city industrialized, that business center was lost. Today, Canal Basin is becoming the center of a new renaissance, the reclamation of our riverfront. Join Canalway to discover how we can honor 200 years of history at this pivot point of industry and recreational hub on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
In addition to the walking tour, the new mural at Canal Basin Park is being celebrated at this time from 3:30-5:30 p.m. This free, public gathering will include summer snacks, free community portraits in front of the mural, a coloring sheet for kids, and a Canal Basin Park Walking Tour beginning at 4 p.m. This Canal Basin Park Walking Tour is part of Cleveland History Days.
