Canalway is a non-profit cultural heritage area that exists to preserve the natural and cultural experiences of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area for the future by serving as a catalyst for projects and programs that connect people to place.
We host programs and events that share the story of the Ohio & Erie Canalway and introduce people to natural, cultural and historic amenities in Cuyahoga County and throughout the Canalway.
We advocate for projects and policies that sustain and improve the infrastructure and connections within the National Heritage Area. Canalway played a major role in the creation of the Towpath Trail and is currently working with community leaders on planned improvements for Canal Basin Park.
We collaborate with public, private and non-profit partners to provide access to premier natural and cultural experiences to help people discover an authentic sense of self, community and place. This work includes leading the effort on interpretive projects, fundraising for public spaces and supporting the establishment of historic districts to recognize and preserve neighborhoods’ architectural heritage for future generations.
